Reactive Care versus Responsive Care: Which Do You Practice?

There is a lot of stress and tension being created with National Healthcare Reform, also known as Obama Care.  And I find it funny that they are choosing to call it Obama Care, simply because he sits at the head of the table in our countries highest office.  And yet, the current form of National Healthcare Reform has been an agenda on the political docket for at least 20 years.  We had it when President Clinton was in office.  His wife Hillary made it her pet project and it never went anywhere.  Why?  Because they couldn’t figure out how to make it work and monetize it at the same time.  So it has been stewing in a CROCK Pot for the past 20 years and now they can pull it out and serve it up.  After all, we as good citizens do as we are told and will buy into anything we are told we need and we will do it because the news media has made it popular.  And it is the same thing they always do.  They present both sides of the argument for why we should and why we should not do something, and after the “party lines” have been shown to us, they will bicker and fight over “what’s in the best interest of the public we serve,” and only, after the public is so sick and tired of hearing about it and has gone into a state of apathy over it, do they then say, “This is what we have agreed upon.”  And so, as we sit on the threshold of being told we have to buy into National Healthcare Reform with The Affordable Care Act, many are wondering, and rightly so, “What this will mean for my health and the health of my family?  Can I actually afford The Affordable Care Act?”

What We Get For Our Money

When we take a good look at what the current state of affairs is in our health as a nation, there was a story that just came out that indicates “We're No. 26!” US below average on most health measures as written by Maggie Fox NBC News November 22, 2013.  The story starts out by saying “Americans are fatter and sicker than people in other comparable countries, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development finds.”  It goes on to say, “Americans are below average on most measures of health — from obesity to infant mortality — when compared with other rich countries, and they're falling behind on lifespan, too, according to the latest survey.”

Based on this story and by following the trends reported on by The US Healthcare System In Perspective found here, it shows how much we spend, what we spend on prescriptions and the results we get by practicing this form of “healthcare.”  It makes you wonder, as things have only gotten worse since this was published in July of 2011 and was based on statistics compiled from 2010.  The summary of the article included the following information.  “Health care spending in the U.S. towers over the other countries. The U.S. has fewer hospital beds and physicians, and sees fewer hospital and physician visits, than in most other countries. Prescription drug utilization, prices, and spending all appear to be highest in the U.S., as does the supply, utilization, and price of diagnostic imaging. U.S. performance on a limited set of quality measures is variable, ranking highly on five-year cancer survival, middling on in-hospital case-specific mortality, and poorly on hospital admissions for chronic conditions and amputations due to diabetes. Findings suggest opportunities for cross-national learning to improve health system performance.”

That speaks volumes to the direction we need to head in, IF we choose to make our health a priority.  And that is a BIG IF!  Watching television to appreciate how “The Powers That Be” want us to think and what they want us to believe is always entertaining.  Commercials for different “Health Care Products” are the most entertaining for us on television out there.  Contriving fake scenarios with “real people” speaking to the camera about their specific health issue and the wonderful life they are now leading as a result of the “miracle pharmaceutical prescription” they are now taking and the results they are having to take back their life from this condition that “has no solution” except to mask it with this medication, this is the education we are getting.  Then when we look to side-effects that are even included with the commercial: things like cancer, stroke, obesity, or even death, it makes an educated person ask, “Why would I choose to do that to myself?”  And the answer is, "Because you don't have a choice and, more importantly, your doctor tells you to."  After all, your doctor knows more than you do.  Heck, they have been educated in the finest institutions about how to “treat” these conditions.  They have also been educated by the pharmaceutical industry and their minions called “Pharmaceutical Reps” to push this prescription for this set of symptoms and we will pay you good money to help us distribute these toxic chemicals designed to alter normal awareness of the symptoms your patient's body is communicating to you.

Symptoms represent something is wrong and it needs to be addressed. Except by taking the medication you are not addressing the real problem.  You are simply unplugging from the awareness of it, thus making you unconscious of what your body is trying to tell you.  And all of it will continue to make the problem worse until surgical intervention is needed.  And don’t think that "The Powers That Be" are not aware of this.  It is the main principle of their agenda: To get every person on as many medications as possible, knowing it will not address the underlying cause, thus leading to more degeneration and destruction of a person’s health, supporting the need for surgical intervention.   And if we get everyone to pay for it up-front, with the Affordable Care Act, then we can continue to make huge profits at everyone’s expense; and if we underestimated the overhead associated with “treating” everyone of the sicknesses they have, it’s OK, because we, the government, who does not participate in this “health plan,” will simply vote to raise the cost of the plan.

So what do we get for the price of the Affordable Care Act?  We get to pay about $9,000.00 a year as an individual and $18,000.00 a year as a family.  Mind you, there will be the standard $1,000.00 – 2,000.00 deductible they will include, but this is for the working class.  For the non-working class, they will still get to pay into the system, except they will simply need to apply the Medicaid Rules for their healthcare.  For those of you who do not know, Medicaid does not cover anything except basic office visits to medical clinics.  There also is a deductible that is different for every state, which makes it hard to know what is covered and what the out of pocket expense would be for anyone.  Suffice to say, making everyone pay into a Health Care System that doesn’t allow you to experience true health makes it problematic, regardless of the cost.  And to ask everyone to pay into a system that is not focused or designed to eliminate causes of conditions, rather simply to set a person up for surgical intervention, only after paying into a system that enables you to unplug from how you feel while choking on the side-effects of the so called “treatment” all along the way seems insane.

What Can You Do?

The best solution to any problem is to confront it.  Confront it by educating yourself to understand the problem, and then use logic and wisdom to solve the problem.  And when approaching a problem from that perspective, the amount of time, energy and money seems to become less of a deterrent.   And this is a good thing as well as a smart thing for most people to consider.  Taking action before there are problems is a less popular road to being healthy.  Waiting until you are in crisis and then reacting to the crisis is more popular right now and is what is known as “Reactive Care.”  And this is what is currently practiced as outlined above.

“Pro-Active Care” is the care used to actually take care of something that has value.  And I believe the most important asset anyone can have is their health.  Investing in your health is the most prudent investment you can make.  Once a person begins to educate themselves about the basics of body function and what happens when normal function is interfered with, an individual can then begin to take control of their body.  By altering normal function with chemicals in our food or through pharmaceuticals, or through surgical intervention only leads to less control for the individual.  “Reactive Care” does nothing to stop a problem, especially if the reactive care is in the form of a pill that you will need to take for the rest of your life.  Pro-Active Care requires an investment of time and energy AND possibly some money.  Can it be done with minimal costs to the individual?  Absolutely it can.  AND the person will have to know their sources are accurate and be able to apply the learning to themselves to see if the teachings are correct.  Consulting with a health expert who is interested in parting their knowledge to the person seeking to understand their body better is vital.  Otherwise, the time and energy required to take ownership of self becomes too great to create the desired product of good health.  Certainly there are enough books, blogs and websites designed to educate.  Taking classes given in an adult education format is also an option.  Consulting with healthcare offices that offer healthcare classes is also available.  AND having the information is important in order to start.  But having the information and doing nothing with it is a waste of time.  Change happens with the application of information.  Therefore, to be Pro-Active requires being active and taking action.  The great thing about taking action is, you get to assess if the action is correct or if it is not correct.  You get to understand how the application creates the desired effect or not.  And if not, don’t stop taking action, because that doesn't create the desired reults.  Ask more questions, get more understanding and then apply the action again.  Health is not found in a pill or in a potion.  Health is found by taking right action again and again and again.  Learning what right action is for you is a personal journey and can only be deciphered by you.  Developing resources and creating a support system with a team of knowledgeable practitioners who are pro-active in their practices is vital.  And it all begins with you.

Your Choice

Health concerns are a major source of lost happiness and lost joy in all of our lives. Finding a solution that is agreeable and enables you to get back to your life is important. Please appreciate that you always have the more invasive surgery and prescription medication available to you as a last resort. What many Traditional Medical Doctors may not share is, many times, once you begin that journey into medication and/or surgery, it alters your original body from the one that you were born with. Unfortunately, at that time, more conservative and natural treatments may no longer be viable. I encourage you to consider that before making any decisions about treatment for your health. As always I am here to help.

Your Choice:
