Your Grieving Lungs

Your Grieving Lungs

You may not be aware of this, but the Lungs are the storage site for all your grief.  Making up one half of the next elemental component of the 5 Element Theory, the Metal Element consists of the Lungs and the Large Intestine.  The Lungs being the Yin portion, and the Large Intestine balancing out the element with its Yang energy.  This month I will be covering the Lungs, and next month I will handle the Large Intestine.

Your Lungs are two very important organs designed to exchange oxygen from the air we breath in, for the carbon dioxide we breath out.  This carbon dioxide is created in the body as a waste product from our metabolic processes at the cellular level.  Your Lungs consist of 5 lobes total, 3 on the right and 2 on the left.  How the Lungs fill is important for optimal oxygen absorption.  In an effort to appreciate this, when the Lungs fill with air, they have the natural tendency to fill in a downward fashion.  In other words, when we breathe in, our Lungs fill with air, the filling of which causes the organ to expand in a downward direction, not in the raising of the rib cage like so many do.  And this is important for normal functions within the body.  When the Lungs expand downward, it lowers the diaphragm and causes the abdomen and all of its digestive organs to move down and out.  Therefor, when you breathe in, your ribs should not move up and out with your belly being pulled in, but in fact, your belly should move down and out, and your ribs shouldn't move at all.

The diaphragm is an important muscle and one that helps the body process and release its emotions.  Especially important with grieving, many when experiencing grief will have the tendency to breath in deeply through their chest with many short breathes in, but will then never really release the grief by breathing out fully.  This tends to trap the emotion in the Lungs, and the emotional event never really clears from the body.  This is why Anniversaries of events that caused one grief are difficult to go through.  The grief was never fully processed and continues to re-stimulate around the time of the emotional event.

As stated above, the Lungs are represented by the chief emotion of Grief. The Natural emotion is Dispersion.  Used by the body to disperse active memory with emotional attachments that are no longer required by the bodymind complex.  For example, a pet dog dies and the grief disperses the emotional history and leaves the person with only the memories of the pet dog left.  This doesn't always occur though, which leads to imbalances.  The Pathological emotion is Disintegration.  When there is involvement with the grief and the attachment of other emotions such as anger, worry, and victim consciousness, the grief becomes a pathology of the Lungs.  Asthma, Emphysema, Bronchitis, and Pneumonia are just a few examples of how this can manifest.  Minor emotions associated with the Lungs are sadness, yearning, cloudy thinking and anguish.  These emotions too can be associated triggers for Lung difficulties.

The main activity associated with the Yin of the Lungs is that of surrenderGrieving to the point of total surrender helps to keep this organ in balance.  Since many feel embarrassed when grieving, especially in the company of others, you may want to surrender to that notion, as you would be creating the basis for Lung problems.  Always grieve fully for maximum balance of your body and your overall health.

The chief sense organ associated with the Metal element is the sense of smell of the nose.  The chief fluid is mucus which is important to appreciate concerning sinus infections and upper respiratory infections.  Most sinus infections are as of a result of a Large Intestine imbalance.  The easiest way to help release the sinus pressure is to stop eating cheese and dairy, and consider placing a cool-pack on the lower right abdomen in conjunction with drinking more water.  Avoid sugar and in next months issue I'll discuss the true mechanism of this problem and why the cool-pack solution works.

Muscles associated with the Yin Lungs are the muscles related to the shoulders.  Important to understand this relationship because all shoulder conditions are related to the Lungs.  The muscles include the Deltoids, the Coracobrachialis, the Serratus Anterior and the diaphragm.  Also related is the body's largest organ, the skin.  In next months issue, I will discuss how skin health is affected by the balance of the Metal Element.

What This Means To You

If you suffer with any shoulder problems, difficulty breathing with the likes of asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, Pneumonia or other chronic upper respiratory infections in the Fall and Winter, you will definitely want to have your Lungs evaluated.  The change in seasons from hot to cold seen during the last third of the year is a time when people's bodies have trouble transitioning from maximum expansion of the Summer to the maximum contraction of the Winter.  Experiencing Lung symptoms is a reason to have this evaluated.  Possible solutions for chronic weak Lungs would be to take a whole food concentrate from Standard Process known as Pneumatrophin PMG.  Designed to rebuild the Lungs, it goes a long way toward helping repair damage to the Respiratory System.  Another important natural solution for people with chronic mucus or "post nasal drip" is to take FenGre which helps to bind to and break up the mucus within the body.  This powerful formula is also 100 % natural with the only side effect being less mucus in the body.  Powerful herbal solutions from MediHerb are Albizia Complex designed to maintain normal respiratory tract and skin function, and assist in maintaining healthy breathing passages.  Euphrasia Complex maintains healthy mucus secretions in the nasal passages, maintains normal respiratory tract function, and assists in maintaining healthy breathing passages to support free and clear breathing.  Golden Seal 500 helps maintain healthy mucus membranes, and assists in maintaining healthy breathing passages to support clear breathing.  Considering these when you have breathing concerns would be prudent.

Your Choice

Health concerns are a major source of lost happiness and lost joy in all of our lives. Finding a solution that is agreeable and enables you to get back to your life is important. Please appreciate that you always have the more invasive surgery and prescription medication available to you as a last resort. What many Traditional Medical Doctors may not share is, many times, once you begin that journey into medication and/or surgery, it alters your original body from the one that you were born with. Unfortunately, at that time, more conservative and natural treatments may no longer be viable. I encourage you to consider that before making any decisions about treatment for your health. As always I am here to help.

Your Choice:

  • Continue doing the same thing and nothing changes or it may get worse
