The Purpose of Being Human

Many times a day I am reminded of my purpose for being.  And many times, during my day patients come to my office and they have a concern about “What is my purpose?  They may not come right out and ask it directly, and yet, in their eyes, they are wondering, “Why am I here as a person and what is the point?  And if they are dealing with a painful condition or a difficult life circumstance, we have all been there thinking the same thing.  We show our compassion for them when we give them help.  And that serves a vital purpose.

We all have a purpose; some more focused then others.  And when we take the time to focus on what our purpose could be, my life experience has allowed me to come to a simple conclusion.  I will get to that in a minute.

The word “purpose” is defined as 1. the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc. 2. an intended or desired result; end; aim; goal. 3. determination; resoluteness. 4. the subject in hand; the point at issue. 5. practical result, effect, or advantage: to act to good purpose.   And with that understanding, people can have many different goals and serve many different purposes.  What’s important to grasp is beginning to shift your focus to noticing what you do enjoy doing that is a benefit to yourself AND a benefit to others.  Plus, when we do that, we begin to have an activity we can do that serves you and others.

So what is the purpose of being a human?  The Universal Purpose for every one of us, the 7 billion plus individuals on our planet, is to help one another.  Think about that for a minute.  No, really.  Take the time to think about it.  Every human being is here to help every other human being.  And when you take the time to really sit with that, you will see that it is the perfect answer.  We are all familiar with The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  And we can all appreciate to some degree that “when I help another, I feel better myself: I feel helpful, I feel important, I feel needed, I feel satisfied, etc.  And at the end of the day, we really do things for two reasons:  To satisfy our need to be needed by others, and to fulfill our role or purpose for being.

So I want you to take the time to consider for yourself: What is your purpose?  Take the time to feel your answer.  Don’t try to “think” about it.  All thinking is the result of your “out of balance” programming that was installed into you by various teachers (parents, authority figures, religious leaders, society, the media, the internet, etc.) and then comparing that programming to what your life experience has shown you to be true.  And in that, you find your beliefs about life, what is possible and what is not…for you to achieve.  And when you adopt certain beliefs to be true, you begin to reach for life or limit your reach for life and continue “thinking” what is possible for you or not.  So I do not what you to think about it.  I’d like you to consider moving 12 to 18 inches below your thinking center (brain) and drop into your feeling center, your heart.  Feel what you have a passion for, feel what seems natural for you to do, feel what you are good at and determine how that serves others.  Determine, from your heart, what makes your heart sing?  What is your gift?  What can you share with others that will give them pleasure and improve their lives?  Find that within you.  It is sitting in your heart and is waiting for you to turn it on.

Okay Doctor Rick, I’m with you.  Can you give me an example?  What is your purpose?

Fair enough.  Leaders lead by example.  My purpose, as you may already have a sense is:

To support as many people as possible in their quest for health; To educate my community, one person at a time, to understand what health is, why medication is harmful, what it takes to be healthy AND what it will take for them to be healthy by making better health choices for themselves and their loved ones; To educate my Practice member to understand what health is, so they may, in turn, help educate others and to continuously refer anyone they know to the Office for the purposes of regaining their health; To have my Practice members actively choose to be in the office to support themselves and their loved ones to their highest level of health possible, as they understand why they are in the office and choose to achieve their maximum health.  This will support the person, the family and the community to be healthy and to set the foundation for a thriving community.

That is a mouthful, for sure.  And it is my purpose for being a human.  Nothing gives me more pleasure and more satisfaction when I am educating a person and helping them to understand how they can restore their health.  And when we come to the understanding of how we are going to achieve this and then set out on the journey of restoring and improving a person’s health, the ability to see a person change and to see the excitement in their eyes as they discover what they are capable of; that makes it all worth it.  I have served my purpose and I have helped another human being become more of what they always were…health expressed.

So what is your purpose?  Have you found it yet?  Has it changed?  Did you have the purpose of raising healthy children who have now left the nest and are out in the world?  Have you retired from your job and are now looking for a new purpose?  Have you recently entered the work-force and are new to finding your purpose?  Are you currently working and it doesn’t seem fulfilling and you need a purpose?  Are you simply going through life one day at a time with no sense of purpose at all?

Whatever your current position in life, I can help you find your purpose while helping you discover your passion.  Simply take the time to pick up the phone and call the office: 845-561-2225 and tell me you want help realizing your purpose; you want help focusing your purpose; you want help maximizing your purpose.  Helping yourself while helping others is the purpose of being human.  Asking for help is the easiest way to support another’s purpose while supporting your own purpose at the same time.  Give yourself the opportunity to make a conscious difference in the lives of those you care about while helping yourself as well.  Call the office and let us sit down together and discover your passion and let’s make this spring serve as a spring board for your life by activating your passion and then putting it into play.  You will be helping me serve my purpose and helping you serve yours.  I'm here to help you.

Your Choice

Health concerns are a major source of lost happiness and lost joy in all of our lives. Finding a solution that is agreeable and enables you to get back to your life is important. Please appreciate that you always have the more invasive surgery and prescription medication available to you as a last resort. What many Traditional Medical Doctors may not share is, many times, once you begin that journey into medication and/or surgery, it alters your original body from the one that you were born with. Unfortunately, at that time, more conservative and natural treatments may no longer be viable. I encourage you to consider that before making any decisions about treatment for your health. As always I am here to help.

Your Choice:

  • Continue doing the same thing and nothing changes or it may get worse

OR

  • Try something different and get a different result that makes you happier and healthier.
