Quest for Health

On A Quest For Health?

Being in the health care profession, I am always conscious of my health decisions and the choices I make that effect my overall well-being.  And many times, when with others, questions will come up related to my choices, and why I choose to do the different practices I do pertaining to my health.  Often the questions relate to different diets and foods.  And likewise, different people will watch what I order, or will ask me what I eat for my different meals.  And I'm O.K. with people asking.  It helps to get some ideas and answers that can help the person.  Besides, I'm proud of what I eat.  After all, I eat probably 90 to 95 % organically.  I drink plenty of water, and usually only water, with very irregularly choosing to have tea.  I've never drank coffee, nor would I ever choose to for the simple fact that the withdrawal symptoms associated with coming off of coffee include headaches and other related symptoms.  That to me says enough about keeping it out of my body.  And I also exercise regularly through hiking, biking, etc.  I do my best to be the example for people to follow in their own quest for health.  Fortunately and Unfortunately, I invariably run into the same problem.  People look at what I do and think (and often say), "I could never do that!" or "You don't expect me to give up my coffee, cigarettes, cheese, sugar, (or whatever else they may be unhealthily attached to)."   My answer to that is I don't expect you to do anything.  I will encourage you to consider changing the unhealthy habits, but I won't ever expect you to do anything.

In reality, I am here to guide people to better health.  And some will take all the guidance, and some will not.  And I have become completely O.K. with that.  But please don't look at my current state of health practices and expect yourself to do the same thing I do.  At least not right out of the box.  I am a 24 year metamorphosis in progress and always looking to continue improving.  And when I started, I was not doing 95 % of what I do now.  I have learned over the years what works for me and what doesn't work.  And I have applied my new learning and found where my personal edge is.  Now that I know that, I can run the edge, and cross over it if I choose.  And I know how to get back to balance and maintain healthy habits if I choose to cross the line.

"But, Where Do I Begin?"

What you will need to do is exactly the same thing.  Become more aware, more conscious, of what works for you versus what doesn't work for you, which will allow your health to continuously improve.  And then once you are aware of those things, you then have the choice to either do them, or not.  And if you choose to do them, you will get well.  If you choose not to do them, you will continue to have your problem(s), until you decide to change your behavior to what would improve your situation.  It is that simple, and at the same time quite complex.  The quest for health is a life-time commitment.  The degree to which you allow yourself to progress is ultimately up to you.  Again, my job, or the job of any health care practitioner, is to act as an interpreter for your symptoms and a guide to lead you out of your condition.  The job of the patient is to ask the right questions and to educate themselves on what it will take to restore balance and return full ownership back to themselves, free of symptoms and maintaining optimum function.  This takes a certain amount of responsibility, a word that more and more want less to do with, which has ultimately lead them to their quest for health.  Lets face it, once your health begins to leave you, due to a lack of conscious attention, you will be forced to become more attentive to your body's needs.  Your body will let you know, and many times it stops you, literally, in your tracks.  Taking ownership of your body in an effort to make it run correctly requires taking responsibility.  Become more conscious by paying attention to what your body tells you through its reactions to how you stimulate it.

Once again, I am a health care provider whose soul mission is to assist others to better health through conscious living.  With that, I offer five basic practices anyone can do which will go a long way toward improving their health.  Tremendously I might ad.  And it doesn't require huge changes to start.  But I promise you this: If you make the commitment to yourself to become more conscious of doing more of what is below, your health will have no choice but to improve.  I list them in no particular order, so don't become attached to how they appear.  Just begin applying them consciously to your life and the changes you wuish to see in your health will simply show up.

1) EAT HEALTHY: basically this means as natural and as organic as possible.  Greatly reduce or cut out completely ALL white sugar and refined sugar products that have a large amount of carbohydrates as the primary component of the food.  You will know this by reading the label.  Any carbohydrate listing greater than 20 grams per serving is entirely too much.  Try to limit this to 15 grams or less per serving, and try to limit the size of a serving.  Pay attention to the labels as you purchase the foods.  Notice the difference between carbohydrate grams and sugar grams.  Try to get this to be 50 % or less sugar to the total carbohydrates per serving.  Do this a couple of times when shopping, and you will then know what are the better choices available.  Again, become more conscious of your choices, and you are on your way to better health.

2) EXERCISE REGULARLY: Please don't stress yourself out over the concept of "exercising."  All one really needs to do is go for a walk everyday for just 30 minutes.  You don't need to buy expensive equipment to do this.  Simply a good pair of walking shoes and preferably a flat surface to walk on.  Treadmills and other equipment are not absolutely necessary.  Ideally I would prefer you do without them.  When the weather is nice, any outdoor area, a track, a park, a neighborhood will all do the trick.  When the weather is not ideal, drive to the mall and walk the mall.  Do this a couple of times, and you will get over the stigma of being a "mall walker."  Many people do it, and the important part is not how others see you, but that you are simply doing it.  Weights are an option for exercising, but walking is better for your overall health.  Weights should be added after you've been walking consistently for about 6 months.

3) GET PROPER AMOUNTS OF SLEEP: this has become a health epidemic believe it or not.  People are not getting the necessary amount of sleep every night.  Ideally, most adults need a minimum of 7 hours of good quality sleep per night.  With all the stress people are under, being pulled in several different directions and having financial stress, etc., it is hard to shut the brain off and get a good nights sleep.  Make the effort to avoid sitting in front of the TV watching violent images on the news or other programs before bed.  We have become desensitized to this form of violence, but it does effect the sub-conscious and will impact your ability to wind down at the end of the day.  By exercising and eating healthy, these too will assist in the sleeping proper amounts at night.  When you leave your place of employment, leave the work there.  Working at home, even if it is just mental problem solving at night, can interfere with your brains ability to shut down at bed time.

4) BREATHE PROPERLY: most take this for granted, and never give it a second thought, but breathing properly helps your overall health immeasurably.  Fully breathing into your belly, rather then your chest, is the proper way to breathe.  Allowing your diaphragm to expand downward upon inspiration, forcing your belly to bulge out when breathing in, helps to digest your food better and allows your sub-conscious to release negative emotions in a more balanced and harmonious way.  This will give you more energy, reduce constipation, allow you to be more relaxed and will allow you to fall asleep better too.  And you can practice this one any time.  And once you get into doing it properly, you will not have to think about it any more.  Nothing to buy and when it becomes second nature, you are done with needing to be more conscious of it.

5) DRINK ENOUGH WATER EVERY DAY: most people are dehydrated.  They simply do not get anywhere close to the amount of water their body requires.  This leads to slowing down the natural cycles and will always lead to symptoms.  Drinking 1 quart of water for every 50 lbs. you weigh, every day is the amount of water your body requires.  Coffee, juice, tea, etc., are not water, and will not count as water since your body has to lose water to digest these drinks.  If you don't like the fact that you need to drink so much water for your weight, begin applying the other four healthy habits, and your weight will decrease, and then you can drink less water.  But since water is so vital to overall health, getting into the habit of drinking it regularly, and gradually increasing it to the proper amounts will help to eliminate 90 to 95 % of all your symptoms, doing nothing else.  The more severe your symptoms, the longer it will take to have the desired effect.  Conscious consistency is the key.

So now you have a place to start.  Employing any of these health habits will improve your health.  Obviously as you become more focused and more conscious of working each of them into your daily routine, your health will improve dramatically.  Paying attention and being consistent are the keys here.  Subtly shifting what you are currently doing and working any (and eventually all) of them into your life routine will gradually have the desired effect you will want.  You have one life to live.  Why wouldn't you want to live it with more energy and more balance.  Begin to put these simple habits into your life, and if you have any questions, or need any help with any health related issues, I am here to assist you.  It is my purpose and mission to help you at whatever level you are, without judgment but with support and intention to improve you to the next grandest version of the greatest vision you ever had about who you are and who you choose to become.

Your Choice

Health concerns are a major source of lost happiness and lost joy in all of our lives. Finding a solution that is agreeable and enables you to get back to your life is important. Please appreciate that you always have the more invasive surgery and prescription medication available to you as a last resort. What many Traditional Medical Doctors may not share is, many times, once you begin that journey into medication and/or surgery, it alters your original body from the one that you were born with. Unfortunately, at that time, more conservative and natural treatments may no longer be viable. I encourage you to consider that before making any decisions about treatment for your health. As always I am here to help.

Your Choice:

  • Continue doing the same thing and nothing changes or it may get worse
