Celebrex: An Anti-Inflammatory (NSAID)

Celebrex Side Effects

For Patients

Celebrex (celecoxib) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the relief of pain, fever, swelling, and tenderness caused by arthritis. It is also used for familial FAP, acute pain, and menstrual cramps. Common adverse effects of Celebrex (celecoxib) include headache, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, and insomnia. Celebrex (celecoxib) may cause serious stomach and intestinal ulcers that may occur at any time during treatment. Celebrex (celecoxib) does not interfere with the function of the blood platelets and, as a result, does not reduce clotting and lead to increased bleeding time like other NSAIDs.

The recommended dose of Celebrex (celecoxib) is 200 to 400 mg daily. Concomitant use of Celebrex (celecoxib) with aspirin or other NSAIDs may increase the occurrence of stomach and intestinal ulcers. It may be used with low dose aspirin. Diflucan (fluconazole) increases the concentration of Celebrex (celecoxib) in the body. Celebrex (celecoxib) should not be used in late pregnancy because there is a risk of heart defects in the newborn Celebrex (celecoxib) is secreted in breast milk.

Stop using celecoxib and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

SIDE EFFECTS: See also Warning section.

Stomach upset or gas may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: severe headache, unexplained weight gain, swelling of the hands or feet, pain/swelling/warmth in the groin/calf, change in amount of urine, difficult/painful swallowing, unusual tiredness.

This drug may rarely cause serious liver disease. If you notice any of the following highly unlikely but very serious side effects, stop taking celecoxib and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, persistent stomach/abdominal pain.

Your Choice

Health concerns are a major source of lost happiness and lost joy in all of our lives. Finding a solution that is agreeable and enables you to get back to your life is important. Please appreciate that you always have the more invasive surgery and prescription medication available to you as a last resort. What many Traditional Medical Doctors may not share is, many times, once you begin that journey into medication and/or surgery, it alters your original body from the one that you were born with. Unfortunately, at that time, more conservative and natural treatments may no longer be viable. I encourage you to consider that before making any decisions about treatment for your health. As always I am here to help.

Your Choice:

  • Continue doing the same thing and nothing changes or it may get worse

OR

  • Try something different and get a different result that makes you happier and healthier.
